Cleaning up messes! The beginning of the Bible sounds very much like it. The first two phrases of the book of Genesis are setting the scene for house-cleaning (Genesis 1:1):
“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep.”
Have you ever stumbled over the first two lines thinking to yourself: “Wait a minute – God created Heaven and Earth and the outcome is formless and empty? That doesn’t make any sense!” – Indeed, it would make more sense if there was a hidden story between those lines, something like this:
God created beauty. After beauty was destroyed, God cleaned up a big mess and brought back beauty!
I find God’s restoring power quite inspiring. If you happen to look at a dead situation right now, wondering what good can come out of it, look up to God. He raised new life out of dead ashes when He created the world and subsequently watched creation explode into an endless variety of species. Stephanie Pappas, Live Science Contributor, surmises:
“Calculating how many species exist on Earth is a tough challenge. Researchers aren’t even sure how many land animals are out there, much less the numbers for plants, fungi or the most uncountable group of all: microbes. Now, researchers have attempted to use the laws of math to make an estimate that includes both micro and macro life. The researchers estimated that there may be as many as 1 trillion species out there.”
That’s the power of God’s hope! His hope revived the universe and the planet we call our home today.
When God restored life, He also created a new species: He created man. We read about man’s creation in the book of Genesis (Genesis 1:26-27)
“Then God said, ‘Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.’ So God created man in his own image, in the image of God He created Him, male and female He created them.”
When God created us He also gave us a job: to be caretakers of planet Earth. We didn’t come as a single edition, but we were created male and female. Made in God’s image, we work as a team, not unlike the Trinity who also operates as a team.
Unfortunately, in the end human beings decided to part ways with their Creator; their bad choices thoroughly affect our world today. Nevertheless, God has refused to give up on mankind. Instead He diligently went to work and through blood, sweat, and tears He created a way out of the mess we have made. Originally a member of the Trinity, the Son of God Jesus came to earth to become a member of human society. He lived to help us and died to set us free. As a result, we’re still here today. We live because God wants us to live. That’s God’s salvation in a nutshell.
