John 19:14: “And Pilate said to the people, ‘Look, here is your king!’”

Pilate of all people is pointing us into the right direction. Exclaiming to the crowd “Look here is your king!” he was pointing to Jesus, the Savior of the world. And Pilate is right. We need to take a look at our Savior.

If we are looking at our lives and try to make sense out of it by just using our brain power we will quickly find out that we’re not getting very far – which is not to say it’s not necessary to sit down and think through things. In order to assess a problem we need to take inventory, come to conclusions and move on. Assessing we might do, but if we feel stuck running circles mulling over the same issues over and over again, then this is a clue that we missed something important along the line. We may have looked at a problem, but did we also look up?

There is this wonderful Psalm, one of my personal favorites, that says: (Psalm 121:1-2)

“I look up to the mountains – does my help come from there? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth!”

We can look at mountains of trouble until we are blue in the face. Looking to the Lord for help makes the difference. So here is the deal: Look up! Look up to the Savior to get unstuck. Look up to the Savior to make wise decisions. Look up to the Savior for quality of life. Look up to the Savior for meaningful life. Last but not least: look up to Jesus for Eternal Life.

“Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace.” Helen H. Lemmel
