Jeremiah 29:11-13: “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.’”

What does the future hold? We don’t have the foggiest idea, and our plans may or may not come to fruition. In one of his songs John Lennon quoted Allen Saunder’s Reader’s Digest entry:

“Life is what happens to us while we are making other plans.”

The randomness of life reveals how little in control we really are. This is God’s universe, and He is really in control; this doesn’t mean He moves us around like chess pieces, but He does have specific plans for our lives.

Seeking God is a life style, a lifelong journey. By looking for His guidance we allow God’s plans to be realized. What plans? Here is what I believe:

  • God thinks big. Naturally, His plans for you and me are not man-sized, they are God-sized.
  • God has written out a plan for each and every person. Why? – You may wonder. Well, He handcrafted us. Why wouldn’t He? And the very fact that God has a plan for our lives strikes me as special – He wouldn’t have a plan, wouldn’t He, unless He was involved in our lives. God pursues His creation with great passion. He cares. That’s who He is.
  • God has plans that help us grow and bring about a better tomorrow. Plans that are custom-sized and tailored to each person – they fit us like a glove. Call it our contribution to humanity; call it our purpose; but whatever God has in store for us, it is certainly something to get excited about.

Life has its ups and downs, but through it all we trust the Lord knowing that His plans for us are very good – plans to prosper us and not to harm us, plans to give us hope and a future.
