Hebrews 12:2: “looking away from all that will distract us and focusing our eyes on Jesus, who is the Author and Perfecter of faith, who for the joy of accomplishing the goal set before Him endured the cross, disregarding the shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God revealing His deity, His authority, and the completion of His work.”

Recently, I started painting my sister’s dog Maple using a snapshot she took in the prior winter season. The image depicted Maple in the snow. Enjoying snowfall, she had the most adorable look on her little dog face. The following day when I walked into my studio to pick up where I left off I noticed that I got her legs all wrong! How did that happen? The answer is easy: I was so taken by Maple’s demeanor that I got carried away. Trying to capture the dog’s facial expressions I took my eyes off the original photograph. I ended up with a cute dog face and four crippled legs.

Well, here’s an analogy when it comes to our faith in God:

Take your eyes off the original Godhead and your faith goes south!

Look around you. Life has layers. Even the most simplest of microorganisms made of a single cell is complicated. If even tiny little things are multilayered and complicated, how much more is God who made them?

It takes an eternity to dig through the layers and get to know our mysterious God. This also means we need to keep at it every day by seeking His counsel and fully embracing the adventure of being alive. God’s outlook on life is very different from ours. The more we spend time with Him, the more are we able to tackle our issues with a fresh approach. Life can be tough. We need all the encouragement we can get!

Jesus is called the author of our faith, and rightly so. Jesus believed that He would be delivered from the grave. And so He was. He rose from the grave on the third day and conquered death once and for all. Jesus believed in His God-given mission. He believed we were worth saving. Jesus loved us so much that He saw His mission through all the way to the end. He walked by faith. Every step of the way He prayed and relied on the Heavenly Father.

As we move through life, let’s take a good look at Jesus. His thumbprints are all over our faith. Thanks to Him we’re God’s children. Thanks to Jesus we believe, and thanks to Him the kingdom of God has been established.
